RETURN & REFUND POLICY

Last updated: September 21, 2026

Silver Square Film Lab (“Silver Square,” “SSFL,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) wants customers to understand what can and cannot be canceled, returned, refunded, rescanned, or covered by warranty.

This Return & Refund Policy should be read together with our Terms & Conditions, which contain additional provisions governing orders, film processing, Digital Scans Only, customer materials, products, warranties, shipping, digital delivery, negative retention, and limitations of liability.

1. FILM PROCESSING, SCANNING, AND LAB SERVICES

Film development, scanning, Digital Scans Only, push/pull processing, RAW-file services, and other laboratory services are generally nonrefundable once processing or scanning has begun because the requested work is irreversible or because the associated labor, chemistry, equipment time, and materials have been committed.

If you need to cancel or modify an order before processing or scanning begins, contact Silver Square Film Lab as soon as possible. Cancellation or modification is not guaranteed after film, negatives, or other customer materials have been received and logged.

If SSFL cancels an unperformed service, we will refund the unearned portion of the service fee, subject to any applicable shipping, special-handling, or other charges already incurred.

If SSFL confirms a material processing or scanning error, any applicable remedy will be determined in accordance with our Terms & Conditions and applicable law.

2. DIGITAL SCANS ONLY

Digital Scans Only is a scanning service for previously developed film. Film development is not included.

Once scanning of submitted negatives has begun, Digital Scans Only service fees are generally nonrefundable.

A refund will not ordinarily be provided because submitted negatives are underexposed, overexposed, poorly developed, faded, stained, scratched, fogged, chemically degraded, damaged, deteriorated, improperly stored, or otherwise incapable of producing the image quality expected by the Customer.

Basic dust and light scratch cleanup is included with Digital Scans Only, but SSFL does not guarantee complete restoration or removal of heavy scratches, staining, fingerprints, prior mold damage, chemical degradation, emulsion deterioration, or other permanent physical damage.

Scanning cannot recreate image information that is not present in the original negative.

Negatives submitted for Digital Scans Only must be compatible with our scanning equipment. Individually cut frames or materials that cannot be safely handled by our scanning system may be refused.

If submitted negatives are refused before scanning because they are unsupported, contaminated, unsafe, or otherwise unsuitable for service, SSFL may refund any unearned scanning fee. Return shipping, special handling, inspection, cleaning, or other applicable charges may remain the Customer’s responsibility as provided in our Terms & Conditions.

3. DIGITAL FILE DELIVERY AND WETRANSFER

Completed scans are generally delivered electronically using WeTransfer or another digital-delivery service selected by SSFL.

When WeTransfer is used, the download link may arrive in a separate email from WeTransfer rather than inside the SSFL order-fulfilled email.

Customers are responsible for downloading, inspecting, and backing up delivered files promptly.

An expired third-party download link does not by itself entitle the Customer to a refund for completed scanning services.

If a download link expires while SSFL still retains the applicable files, we may provide a replacement delivery link upon request.

Unless a specific service expressly provides otherwise, SSFL may permanently delete scan files, working files, and download galleries 30 days after delivery. After the applicable retention period has expired, SSFL is not required to recreate or redeliver files except where required by law.

If digital files are lost or corrupted before initial delivery and the negatives remain available and scannable, SSFL may recreate and redeliver the affected scans in accordance with our Terms & Conditions.

4. DEVELOP-ONLY AND OTHER COMPLETED SERVICES

Completed develop-only services, scanning services, Digital Scans Only, custom processing, push/pull services, RAW-file services, and other completed custom or laboratory work are generally nonrefundable.

A refund will not ordinarily be provided because a Customer dislikes the aesthetic appearance of properly processed or scanned film, including grain, contrast, color rendition, density, cropping, exposure, scanner characteristics, or results caused by the film stock, camera, lighting, age, storage, prior development, exposure, or Customer-selected processing instructions.

Develop-only orders do not include frame-by-frame scan inspection, exposure analysis, image-quality evaluation, or verification that usable photographs are present unless those services were separately purchased.

Nothing in this section limits a remedy that SSFL is required to provide by applicable law.

5. ORDER CANCELLATIONS

Orders may be eligible for cancellation before processing, scanning, customization, fulfillment, or shipment begins.

To request cancellation, contact SSFL at info@silversquarefilm.com and include your name and order number.

If an order has already entered processing or scanning, been customized, fulfilled, or shipped, cancellation may no longer be available.

Film processing is irreversible once it begins.

A requested cancellation or modification is not accepted until SSFL confirms it.

6. FILM, CHEMISTRY, AND CONSUMABLE PRODUCTS

New film, chemistry, and other consumable products are generally final sale after shipment or pickup, except when the item was materially misdescribed, the wrong item was supplied, the item was damaged before delivery, SSFL agrees in writing to a return or replacement, or a refund, replacement, or other remedy is required by applicable law.

Opened, exposed, refrigerated, temperature-sensitive, chemically sensitive, or otherwise altered consumable products are not eligible for change-of-mind returns unless required by law.

Manufacturer warranties, where applicable, are provided by the manufacturer and are not expanded by SSFL.

7. USED CAMERAS AND LENSES

Used cameras and lenses are sold in the condition described in their individual product listings.

Change-of-mind returns are not accepted unless the individual product listing expressly states otherwise.

Unless a listing states otherwise, a used camera serviced and sold by SSFL includes a 30-day limited functional warranty beginning on the date of delivery or pickup.

A used camera or lens covered by an SSFL written limited warranty is governed by the applicable product listing, the written warranty provided for that product, the applicable provisions of our Terms & Conditions, and applicable federal and state law.

A warranty claim may be submitted during the full warranty period stated in the applicable written warranty.

The warranty does not ordinarily cover previously disclosed cosmetic condition, batteries or film, misuse or improper operation, impact or dropping, water or moisture damage, excessive heat, unauthorized repair or modification, normal wear, or a feature listed as untested or nonfunctional.

Nothing in this Return & Refund Policy shortens or eliminates rights provided by an applicable written warranty or rights that cannot legally be waived.

8. SHIPPING DAMAGE, MISSING ITEMS, AND INCORRECT ORDERS

Customers should inspect returned negatives, cameras, merchandise, and other physical materials promptly after delivery.

Shipping damage, missing items, incorrect merchandise, or other apparent delivery problems should be reported to SSFL within seven days after delivery when reasonably possible.

Please provide your name, order number, a clear description of the issue, and photographs of the packaging, merchandise, or damage where relevant.

This reporting period does not shorten an applicable written warranty period or any right or remedy that cannot legally be waived.

Do not discard damaged packaging or merchandise before giving SSFL a reasonable opportunity to review the issue.

SSFL may request that affected merchandise or materials be returned before issuing a refund, replacement, or other remedy where permitted by law.

9. CONTAMINATED OR UNSUITABLE NEGATIVES

Please do not submit contaminated negatives.

SSFL reserves the right to refuse film or negatives affected by active mold, chemical residue, biological contamination, excessive moisture, severe deterioration, or other substances or conditions that could damage our equipment, facilities, staff, chemistry, or another customer’s materials.

If contaminated or otherwise unsuitable negatives are refused before the requested scanning service is performed, SSFL may refund the unearned portion of the service fee.

The Customer remains responsible for applicable return-shipping, inspection, cleaning, special-handling, disposal, or other costs associated with contaminated or undisclosed hazardous materials to the extent permitted by law.

A refund of an unperformed scanning fee does not require SSFL to absorb return-shipping or special-handling expenses caused by the condition of submitted materials.

10. SHIPPING DELAYS AND UNSHIPPED MERCHANDISE

For merchandise orders subject to applicable federal shipping requirements, if we are unable to ship within the time stated at purchase, or within the period otherwise required by law, we will provide any required delay notice and offer the Customer the option to consent to the delay or receive a prompt refund for the unshipped merchandise.

Carrier delays occurring after a shipment has been tendered to the carrier are generally outside SSFL’s control.

When SSFL purchases a return-shipping label, we will provide reasonable assistance with an applicable carrier claim. Any carrier-related reimbursement is subject to the amount approved and paid by the carrier or shipping insurer.

11. SHIPPING CHARGES

Original shipping charges, return-shipping charges, reshipping charges, special-handling charges, and other delivery expenses are generally nonrefundable unless SSFL shipped the wrong item, the charge resulted directly from an SSFL error, or applicable law requires reimbursement.

Customers are responsible for costs resulting from incorrect or incomplete addresses, refused deliveries, return-to-sender shipments, additional delivery attempts, or reshipment unless the problem resulted from an SSFL error.

If contaminated, unsafe, unsupported, or otherwise unsuitable customer materials must be returned, applicable return-shipping and special-handling expenses are the Customer’s responsibility except where applicable law requires otherwise.

If merchandise cannot be shipped and a refund is required under applicable federal shipping rules, SSFL will refund the amounts required by those rules.

12. REFUND METHOD

Approved refunds will generally be issued to the original payment method when reasonably possible.

Refund processing times may depend on the payment provider, bank, card issuer, or ecommerce platform and may be outside SSFL’s control after the refund has been submitted.

SSFL may require return of merchandise before issuing a product refund or replacement where permitted by law and the applicable policy or warranty.

A refund, credit, rescan, replacement, or other courtesy remedy does not constitute an admission of liability.

13. NO EFFECT ON NON-WAIVABLE RIGHTS

Nothing in this Return & Refund Policy excludes, limits, or waives any consumer right, warranty, remedy, or liability that cannot legally be excluded, limited, or waived.

If any provision of this Return & Refund Policy conflicts with a right provided by applicable law that cannot legally be waived, the applicable law will control to the extent of that conflict.
